South Windsor’s story begins in 1633 when English settlers first arrived in the area. The town was officially established in 1845, separating from its parent town of East Windsor. Thomas Burnham played a key role in the town’s early days. In 1659, he bought land from the Podunk Indians, which now makes up South Windsor and East Hartford.
