History of Half Full Brewery

Half Full Brewery has a story built on passion and community connection. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a Stamford staple, the brewery represents a journey of growth and adaptation.

Founder’s Vision

Conor Horrigan founded Half Full Brewery with a clear mission – to create great beer while embracing an optimistic philosophy. The name “Half Full” itself reflects this positive outlook. Horrigan wanted to build more than just a brewery; he aimed to create a community gathering place where people could connect over quality craft beer.

The brewery launched its first product, Half Full Bright Ale, in early August 2012. At the beginning, you could only find their beer in three restaurants and bars across Fairfield County. This modest start laid the foundation for what would become a beloved local brand.

Horrigan poured his passion into each glass, striving to make Half Full different from other breweries in Connecticut’s growing craft beer scene.

Evolution Over the Years

Over time, Half Full expanded its reach to nearly 20 establishments around the area. The brewery’s original location in Stamford served as its headquarters until October 2024, when they made a strategic decision to focus on their larger facility.

You can see how Half Full adapted to changing times by opening “Third Place by Half Full Brewery” in Stamford’s South End. This satellite location featured an events space that gave visitors new ways to experience the brand beyond just drinking beer.

The brewing team has evolved too. At one point, a brewer named Muck served as head brewer before eventually returning to his native Missouri. Throughout these changes, Half Full maintained its commitment to quality and community connection.

Community Engagement

Half Full Brewery lives up to its optimistic name through strong community ties and positive local impact. The brewery’s philosophy of making “the world a more positive place” shows in everything they do in Stamford.

Local Events and Partnerships

You’ll find Half Full Brewery at the center of Stamford’s social scene! The brewery regularly hosts community gatherings at both their OG Taproom and their newer Third Place location. These spaces weren’t just designed for drinking beer—they were created to bring people together.

Third Place functions as a true community hub where you can work on projects in their co-working space, enjoy locally brewed beer, or catch performances by up-and-coming artists. With capacity for up to 300 people standing, it’s become a popular venue for local events.

The brewery partners with local businesses and organizations to create special beer releases and events that highlight local causes. These collaborations strengthen Stamford’s community bonds while introducing you to new flavors and experiences.

Sustainability Initiatives

Half Full Brewery takes meaningful steps toward environmental responsibility in their operations. You’ll notice their commitment to reducing waste through thoughtful packaging choices and energy-efficient brewing processes.

The brewery incorporates sustainable practices like water conservation techniques that help minimize their environmental footprint. They’ve also implemented recycling programs that encourage customers to participate in keeping Stamford green.

Local sourcing is another priority, with the brewery seeking Connecticut-grown ingredients when possible. This approach not only produces fresher beer but also supports local farmers and reduces transportation impacts.

By choosing sustainable options, Half Full demonstrates their mindset as a “purpose-driven” company that considers community impact in all aspects of their business. When you visit, you’re supporting these positive initiatives that help make Stamford a better place to live and work.
