History of Deep River

Deep River’s past is as rich as the Connecticut River Valley it calls home. Originally part of Saybrook Colony, the area was known as Eight Mile Meadow or Potapaug Quarter. In 1859, Deep River became its own town. It kept the name Saybrook until 1947 when it officially became Deep River.
